Vohburg to Kelheim
Leaving Vohburg, the trail followed the Donau but away from the river passing through several small towns. Near Neustadt, the trail crossed the river and passed the outskirts of Neustadt before entering the spa town of Bad Gögging. In the center of Bad Gögging, I stopped for a quick rest. The trail then brought me back to the river in Eining where there was a large beer garden and ferry landing. As it was still early, I did not stop for a beer although there were many people drinking beer there.
After Eining, the trail left the river and passed through a very hilly area of farmland. After pulling some big hills among the corn fields, I came across several fields the were growing hops. Poles, about 4 meters high, were strung with ropes with dangling ropes for the hops vines. Finally, the trail headed downhill to the towns of Staubing and Weltenburg.

Passing along the river by Weltenburg, one comes to the large Weltenburg Abbey. At the abbey, the Donau passes through a steep gorge. To continue the bike trail, one must go by boat about 2 km up the river before regaining the trail to the town of Kelheim. At the abby, there were several small tour boats to take people through the very scenic gorge. When I arrived at the Weltemburg Abbey, all the tour boats were fully booked. The alternative was to take a small bicycle ferry up the river that connects with the bike trail. After waiting in a que for 3 ferries that carried only about 12 people each, I finally was able to take the ferry up the river for a very scenic ride.

Unlike the tour boats, that dock right at the town of Kelheim, the bicycle ferry brought me to a small landing at a bike trail about 1.5 km away from Kelheim. After riding up the bike trail to Kelheim, I found my hotel for the night, the Domero. Later, after a quick shower and rest, I made my way up the main-street to find some dinner. I found a small Döner Kabap restaurant and had a döner plate at a outside table.
