Neuburg to Vohburg
Leaving Neuburg, the trail runs almost 4 km due east along Grünauer Strasse to the hunting lodge of Schloss Grünau. The trail then turns south, past the small abbey of Rohrenfeld, before heading east through a wooded area. The trail then turned south again towards the small town of Weichering. Just before Weichering, I made a very stupid move. I came up to a railroad crossing with its gates down and another fellow waiting at the gate. After waiting several minutes, we both shrugged and decided to go around the gates. Just as I cleared the first gate and was approaching the tracks, a train came out of the woods and whizzed by. I learned to never make that move again and just be patient at railroad crossings.
After Weichering, the ride to Ingolstadt was mostly through woods, cornfields and farmland south of the river. After Ingolstadt, the trail was mostly on the top of the levy along the river. Entering Ingolstadt, the trail crosses the Donau to the north and takes one into the city center. In the city center a plaza, the Theaterplatz, has a line of small, open air restaurants with covered seating areas. It was at one of these restaurants that I had a beer and took a rest from my riding.

Leaving Ingolstadt. the trail followed the river, on the north side, along and on top of the levy. I crossed the river to the south side over the Kraftwerk Vohburg dam. From there, it was a short ride into Vohburg, where I checked in to the Hotel zur Post. The receptionist did not speak English so I was able to use my German, which I learned 50 years ago in high-school, to get checked in. Vohburg is a small town with a nice town square. At the square, I found an Italian restaurant with outside tables (Al Fresco dining is popular everywhere in Germany when the weather is nice) and had some spaghetti carbonara and a beer.
