Donauwörth to Neuburg
The ride to Neuburg took me through the towns of Leitheim, Marxheim, and Bertoldsheim. In many places, the trail left the Donau and veered into the hills north of the river. Many of the hills, though they were not steep, were long, especially the hill heading up to Leitheim, where there is a castle that has been turned into a nice hotel. After Leitheim, there were signs saying the highway and bicycle trail were closed going to the next town, Marxheim and would require a long detour. An older German gentleman came by on his bicycle and I asked him, in my broken German, if I needed to take the long detour. He assured me I could still use the bicycle trail by sneaking around some barriers, which I, and some other bikers, did. There were several more hills to climb before finally reaching Neuburg.

Crossing the Danube Into Neuburg
At Neuburg, I crossed the river and passed the large Neuburg Castle as I made my way to the old town center. Once in the town center, I biked down some narrow streets to find my hotel, Gasthof Neuwirt. It was an older hotel with a German Restaurant but, as usual, the room was clean and comfortable. The owner was very friendly and helpful, showing me the location of their bicycle garage. I had dinner at the hotel restaurant and picked out Zwiebel Schnitzel from the German language menu, which was a schnitzel covered with fried onions. I was placed at a table for 4 and was joined by a couple of German fellows. They asked me about my meal and both ordered the same dish.
