Dillingen to Donauwörth

After collecting my bicycle from the hotel's bike garage, I made my way to the river and started down the gravel path. About 2 km along the path, I stopped to take some photos. It was then I discovered I still had the key to the hotel's bicycle garage in my pocket. I did a quick ride back to the hotel to return the key.

Starting again, I rode the path along the river before veering off through the towns of Hochstadt and Blindheim. After Blindheim, the trail crossed the Donau and ran through many cornfields. Passing through the small village of Baldlescheige, I passed a beer garden full off people with many cars parked across the road. It looked like a large private party so I just continued riding. The trail continued through cornfields and farmland, away from the river, until regaining and crossing the river near Donauwörth.

Entering Donauwörth, I passed the large Airbus helicopter facility where there were hundreds of cars and many people walking about. Later, I found out that Airbus was having a large conference. Because of the conference, I was lucky to book one of the few remaining rooms at a hotel near the train station. I found the hotel, the Gasthaus zum Bären, just after crossing the railroad tracks near the train station at the south end of the town. As I was there about an hour before the check-in time, I road my bike into the center of town. The town had a pedestrian area with restaurants and outdoor tables. At one of the restaurants, an Indian restaurant called Yogi's, they were serving Paulaner beer. Paulaner is my favorite German beer so I inquired if I could order one. The family at the restaurant said they were closed for meals until 5:00 pm but were nice enough to serve me a Paulaner at one of their outside tables.

At 4:00 pm, the check-in time, I rode back to the hotel only to find it unoccupied. I had to contact the owner through her Ring doorbell system and she informed me that they had my reservation and that my key was in the mailbox near the front door. People in Germany are far more trusting than in the US. The room was very clean and comfortable. Next to the hotel was a small fairgrounds where a circus tent was being set up. The lights from the circus came through my window that night but all was quiet when I went to sleep. In the morning, the hotel had a nice breakfast buffet.

After washing up, I walked about 0.5 km back to the center of town where most of the other hotels were located. Since they were nice enough to let me order a beer earlier, I went back to Yogi's for an Indian dinner where I sat at an outdoor table near a window. When seated, there was a knock on the window. Greg and Michele, the couple on the tandem bike, were at the table inside. They invited me to join them and we caught up on our rides while trying different Indian dishes.
