Ulm to Donaueschingen by Train

Donaueschingen to Tuttlingen

I woke up to a very rainy morning in Ulm. After finding the DB Bahn ticket office for my Fahrrad Ticket (bike ticket), I needed to take 3 regional trains to get to Donaueschingen, the town in western Germany where the Danube starts. I changed trains in Aulendorf and Sigmaringen to reach Donaueschingen. Fortunately, the rain stopped while I was on the trains. On most trains, you can just roll your bike aboard and leave it in the bicycle area. The train from Sigmaringen to Donaueschingen, however, had 5 steep stairs leading from the door to the bike and passenger areas. When pushing the bike up those steep stairs, I tripped and twisted my knee but did not think my knee felt very bad.

Me Ready to Start My Ride

I got the bike off the train in Donaueschingen with no problem. From the station, I rode my bike up to the Donauquelle spring that is the official source of the Donau. From the Donauquelle, I rode through a park out of the town of Donaueschingen. By then, the weather had cleared and I started my adventure on a sunny day. The trail after Donaueschingen starts by going through rolling hills and fields. In Pfohren, the first town after Donaueschingen, I had my first uphill pull at the south end of the town. It was not a bad hill but a hill never the less. After Pfohren, it was a downhill roll to the river. The bike trail continued up a wide valley, passing through the towns of Geisingen, Immendingen and Möhringen, sometimes crossing the river over covered bridges. A covered bridge brought me to Tuttlingen, my first stop, where I checked in at the Legere Express Hotel. I was tired and not very hungry so I got a CupONoodles and a can of Pringles at the hotel lobby for dinner.
